I feel like a tween again. Seriously. Remember going to a movie in the theatre (which was a super special treat because it was a once-every-two-years experience? (Shush, now, you Millennials.) And how you saved the Famous magazine for a month after because it featured an interview with the actors? And how you gushed about the storyline and how cute the Main Guy was for weeks after? (Right now, I’m specifically thinking about Casper and Devon Sawa… 😉 )
That’s kinda how I feel about Disney On Ice’s Passport to Adventure show that we went to last night. I know, it’s geared towards the kids… but it was SUCH a fun show that I can’t help it! I’m a fan girl! I want to go rewatch ALL the Disney movies!
The other half of this blog & my lovely sister, Marya, came down to Hamilton with her youngest (who’s 9 months older than my son) to come to the show with us. H-man wasn’t too excited about the show because I told him on the van ride there, so I didn’t have a chance to show him videos or pictures of what he should expect. (It’s a sibling thing – A is still too little to be out that late, but I didn’t want to make her feel badly about missing out on this – because at 2.5 years, even she would have loved it!)
I had expected that I’d like The Lion King the best, but at 31 years old, I seem to have completely forgotten about Peter Pan & his shadow. If that’s not a story to fall in love with, I don’t know what is! For the Disney On Ice version, a skater was dressed exactly like Peter Pan, but all black, and they skated a routine together, mirroring & fighting. I think that Marya would agree with me that this was one of the best parts of the performance last night!
I’m always amazed by productions like this. The sets, the costumes, the talent, the energy! I did drama every year in high school, so I know how much behind the scenes work a high school play is – I can only imagine what’s involved in putting this kind of production together! The skaters did an amazing job – and the few times that there was a stumble or fall, they got right back in with perfect timing. Hats off to them – great story tellers, and amazing athletes!
If I was a woman of means, buying tickets to tomorrow’s performance would not be out of the question. If I went, I might just wait outside the back door to catch an autograph or two… 😉 If YOU want to go, don’t worry – Disney On Ice is still in Hamilton for 2 more days at the FirstOntario Centre! Go! I BET you’ll love it as much as your kids will!
By the by, the boys did have a GREAT time, too. H-man spent the evening in rapt attention. He was, not surprisingly, fairly frightened by the GIANT Ursula during the Little Mermaid bit, but was a big fan of Prince Eric, who deflated her. Tinkerbell was a close second fave for him, since she was Magic. The fireworks at the finale pretty much blew his mind. (Did I mention that we don’t get out much?)
P.S. Dear Cast Members: I noticed that there wasn’t a lot of enthusiasm from the audience when it came to clapping & showing appreciation for jumps well-landed or a show well done. I hope that you don’t get that at every show. I don’t know why that was – you certainly deserved raucous applause, especially for the SECOND show of the day – so on behalf of the Hamilton crowd, know that *WE* were in your corner, rooting you on as loudly as we could manage!
I received something of value from Feld Entertainment as part of their Insider Program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

That looks like a blast. But, I have a crush on Lion King.
I too had a crush on Peter Pan growing up. (A part of me – I think it’s my shadow – still does)
