I and 3 of my kids just got back from seeing the opening performance of Marvel Universe Live in Hamilton, and WOW- what a night! You’ve got to hand it to Marvel, they know their audience- I’d say that the adults (skewing towards dads, but plenty of moms in there too) were almost as excited as the kids.

The show was action-packed, exciting, but not frightening. The villains were villainous, and the heroes were heroic and funny. But the stunts- so much fun. My three kids- Nadine (11), Judah (9), and Eli (7) were on the edges of their seats almost the entire time, as was I! During the intermission, I was admiring the incredibly complex suspended scaffolding that housed the wire-work, fog machines and pyrotechnics used during the performance, but once the action continued after the break, I was completely immersed. When Captain Marvel (a female, by the way, my daughter was very excited to see this) flew around the stage, my brain erased her wires- of course she could fly- she was Captain Marvel!
The kids cheered for the superheroes, and booed the villains (though, in my humble opinion, they could have played up this aspect of interaction much more), and jumped, webbed, and repulsor-blasted their way from the performance to the parking lot, along with crowds of other kids. Quote of the night- “Dad, I’m going to have AWESOME dreams tonight!” I will too, I think. Thanks, Marvel, for bringing these fun adventurous heroes to life.
If you’re in Hamilton and you’re thinking, “Shoot! I -er, I mean, my kids would have loved to go to this spectacular event!”
