MR – Last year on Pinterest, I saw all kids of clear ornament ideas. I didn’t have any at the time, but I made it a point during boxing day sales to buy some of those clear Christmas balls at 75% off, costing me next-to-nothing. I only got the clear plastic ones (not the glass) because I have four young boys…
So I’ve been researching what I would like to make. It seems like there are several options – leaving them clear, putting pictures or objects in them, decorating outside them, and filling them with paint/colour.
Crafted Niche
Take a bunch and make chandelier! I also saw a wreath with clear bulbs. Very pretty.
I Heart Naptime
There are a lot of ideas for putting pictures inside an ornament. I like the addition of straw to this one.
Create-Celebrate-Explore
This is just beautiful. I like the glitter around the edges. I’d love to do this using an old black and white photo.
Splitcoast Stampers

The secret to “suspending” an image inside the ornament is to use a sheet of acetate (like the overhead projecter plastic) cut in a circle, which stays in the middle. You could draw anything on there.
The Sewer, The Caker, The CopyCat Maker
This one takes a sillhouette and puts it between 2 circles of acetate so it looks like it’s floating there! Beautiful!
Pottery Barn

This is something you could buy, but you could also make it yourself. Paint or stick the letter on the outside, or use the above technique to suspend the letter inside!
Etsy Seller Minihouseportraits

I think you could use the same technique as the photo ornament, and simply place a picture of your first house inside the ornament.
Glamarella Junk
The Ornament Girl

I love the idea of using sand from a memorable trip or honeymoon. I’d put a tag on it saying the date and place, too.
The Ornament Girl

I could see adding a few cranberries to this!
You Pinspire Me
I made this for my brother-in-law’s wedding. I think I might take out one of our invitiations (from 11 years ago) and make an ornament with it,
8th Continent Soymilk

This is such a sweet gift idea! Make your own bath salts (or just buy some).
The Thrifty Crafter
The best part of these is that you can put anything in them and it looks great! Maybe a sprig of leaves from your first Christmas tree.
Tidy Mom

Can’t get much simpler!
Tidy Mom

Epsom salts and a monogram sticker or Sharpie!
Nap Time Crafts (love the name!)

Cute, and so simple! I like the rolled paper.
Sash to Treasure

Again, with the paper inside. Great gift for a music teacher!
It Works For Bobbi
I like the lettering on the outside. I imagine you’d need a Cricut or something. I would try with a Sharpie, maybe.
I Heart Naptime
Fun for kids to make and play with!
Little Gray Fox
So cute! For the candy lover!
The Ornament Girl

Cranberries -very simple and classy!
Also from The Ornament Girl

A little more sophisticated!
Cremdelacraft
This is a new idea! Break an old CD and glue it on the outside!
Etsy Seller PaperPrincessStudios

Classy and easy to make!
Craftster.org

I love how the clear ornament makes it look like the ribbon is just there by itself!
Krafting with Kathi
If you know how to crochet, these are so cute! It looks very cozy.
Little Gray Fox
All you do is pour a little paint in the ornament and swish it around!
A Yellow Bicycle
You can get a marbled effect if you put 2 colours of paint inside.
The Ornament Girl

Apparently this is such an easy way to do the glitter – it’s all on the inside!
The Swell Life
You put small crayon pieces on the inside and then heat them up!
I Heart Naptime (again, love the name!)
Love this! I would do the last verse of “Away in the Manger.”
There are so many other great clear ornament ideas! Lots of the pictures I found had bad links, and I couldn’t trace them to their source, but they were fun ideas!
-
Fill with jingle bells, feathers, broken ornaments, or pearls
-
Dip in glue, the epsom salts for a frosted look
-
Put the child’s Christmas list inside
-
Dried flowers or a corsage from a memorable event

I'm a Netflixer, choral music geek, bookworm, inventor of recipes (I take Artistic Licence on EVERYTHING that I make), wife of one, mother of two, and owner of a neurotic Schnauzer. I respect people who respect others. I love good food that's well done, but my favourite lunch is KD & hotdogs. With ketchup. I'm addicted to Clearance Shopping. I will ALWAYS get the product that I want at the price that I want, eventually.

Merry Christmas! Keep up the great work!
Make a template of the surface to be personalized by wrapping a piece of paper around the glass, keeping the paper flush with the surface, and trimming to fit. For items with straight sides you can just measure the area and continue on to designing your imprint, but for sloped or uneven surfaces this is crucial since you’ll have to adjust your design to wrap around the item properly.
Personalized Glass Ornaments
