Talking With Kids #StreamTeam

One of the most important tools we can have with our children is communication. We listen to them, and then (we hope) they listen to us. As little babies, this communication was difficult in certain ways, while we tried to interpret their cries.  As they got older, I thought it might get a little easier to communicate, but all of a sudden we have “attitude,”  talking back, and other joys of pre-teen kids. A key to good communication, though, is having a good starting point: a common experience or situation to start from. Enter Netflix – there’s an Ep for that!

From body image to peer pressure, to sibling rivalry,  Netflix has some great shows that provide good starting points for tough conversations with kids of all ages!

For the little kids:

Sibling Rivalry

The Hive ( Watch Ep. S1E1: Babee’s Room)
Buzzabee and Rubee compete over who Babee (their new sibling) gets to room with. Mom and dad must explain to Buzzabee and Rubee that Babee needs to grow up before she can share a room.

For the big kids:

Peer Pressure

Fuller House (Watch Ep. S1E6: The Legend of El Explosivo)
After getting grounded for sneaking off to Bobby Popko’s house, Jackson realizes he needs to stand up for what he knows is right and not give in to please his friend.

For the teens:

Body Image

Glee (Watch Ep. S1E16: Home)
After Sue demands that Mercedes lose weight, Quinn steps in to change her mindset and together they set the stage for beauty at William McKinley High, teaching the importance of empowerment and inclusion.

I live in Bowmanville, and am a mom to four young boys - it can get a little loud in my house. I am a Christian, a part-time French teacher, a piano teacher and former homeschooler. I love finding the best deals, which will come in handy when our boys become hungry teenagers! We just moved to a house with more outdoor space, and I'm still getting used to life in the country (a walk around the block is a lot longer here!).
