Superhero Accessories #1: Thor’s Hammer

As I had mentioned earlier in my #KINDERmom post, our boys are obsessed with Superheroes.  Today as we started putting together Halloween costumes, I found myself on Pinterest looking for inspiration for some accessories for our Superheroes. 

I don’t want to have entirely store-bought costumes, but I also don’t have the energy to make four complete costumes myself.  So we settled on some store-bought with some homemade accessories!

Our 4-year old is going to be Thor (I bought his costume last year at WalMart on clearance for $1!!).  In the end, we decided that his hammer could be made fairly simply – with a cardboard roll from saran wrap, and a box from coffee.

We covered the box with duct tape, hot-glued the roll to it, and added more duct tape. 

A bit of electrical tape on the handle, and we were done! The electrical tape was nice to work with because it had a bit of stretch, and you could undo and re-do parts.

Edit:  Apparently I missed something.  “It’s supposed to have a string handle on the bottom, Mom!”  Okay  – more electrical tape.  Here we go!

Next up: a sword for our Pirate (not exactly a superhero, but he calls himself “Super Pirate!”)
