I’m just returning home from a road trip to Ithaca in the Finger Lakes region with the girls from my Wine & Cheesy Book Club – as in, I’m writing this while sitting in line at the Niagara Falls border. Wanna see what we were up to? Search #wcbcroadtrip on Instagram & Twitter. I’m sure you’ll see a blog post coming up soon about all our adventures, as well.
It was great to have a couple of day away. I needed some time where I was not the one responsible for getting people out of bed, clothing them, feeding them, locating their things, answering their questions, solving their problems. It was wonderful spending more than 3 hours at once with good friends! I know, I was JUST at the Blissdom conference last month but I was literally running from one thing to the next that weekend – amazing, but not even a little relaxing.
With the exception of the minor food poisoning that I picked up last night (I am so lucky that it only lasted for 2 hours, I was dreading the drive back!!), the trip was fantastic. We shopped (I bought a cloche!), went to cideries, wineries, and distilleries, walked the campus of Cornell U, drank wine, played a hilarious game, and saw a huge waterfall. The little (but not-so-little) Honda FIT got us everywhere in comfort & style, and HOLY COW, American gas is CHEAP!
I’m looking forward to getting home & scooping up the littles for giant hugs. I realize that I’ve spent a LOT of time talking about them this weekend (sorry, ladies!!), so I might be in a bit of withdrawal. And as good for the soul as this trip has been, I miss my dear husband. I love travelling with him (we’re matched so well for doing that!), I love sharing these experiences with him, and I miss going on trips like this with him more often. Hopefully the specialty Gin, cheeses, & chipotle chili olive oil that I brought back for him will make up a little for the fact that he wasn’t on the trip with me. Cheers, all, Happy Sunday. I’m off to embrace my family & a new week at home.

Sounds like a great getaway. I need to plan something like that. Sadly, I would rather go away by myself and not have to worry about dealing with anyone.
That type of trip is not without its own merit – I would kind of love a totally alone mini vacation. 🙂
