Strong Female Characters on Netflix #streamteam

International-Womens-Day-2014-Feature-1

As we recently passed another International Women’s Day,  I’ve been reminded about the importance of seeing women in media, literature, and politics.  It’s something that I don’t always think about, being in a family with four boys, but it is still such an important topic.  Women have come such a long ways, but there is still so much further to go, both here and around the world.

Netflix is definitely doing its part in promoting shows with strong female characters.  Have you heard of the show Project MC²? It’s a  teen live-action miniseries that promotes interest in science, technology and coding, with female main characters. How cool is that?! When I was little there was NOTHING that encouraged us in that area! Imagine how many girls’ lives would be different today if they were encouraged down a non-traditional career path?!

There’s also a new show from Netflix starring the amazing Julie AndrewsJulie’s Greenroom is a new show, which features a puppet cast, exploring everything from singing to acting & writing! I’ve been a huge fan of her from The Sound of Music all the way to The Princess Diaries, and I know that whatever she is involved with is going to be great!

Some other shows I’ve really enjoyed that feature strong female leads are:

Gilmore Girls

Covert Affairs

Scandal

Grey’s Anatomy

Quantico

Heartland

How about you? What are you streaming these days? We always need  new ideas!!

I live in Bowmanville, and am a mom to four young boys - it can get a little loud in my house. I am a Christian, a part-time French teacher, a piano teacher and former homeschooler. I love finding the best deals, which will come in handy when our boys become hungry teenagers! We just moved to a house with more outdoor space, and I'm still getting used to life in the country (a walk around the block is a lot longer here!).
