Sharpie Art

I have seen many different posts for how to permanently write on dishes with just a Sharpie, and they looked awesome!  So when I needed a wedding shower gift for a dear friend, I thought it would be neat to try it out.
You can start with any plain, oven-proof dish (ie. not plastic).

I wiped mine with a damp cloth to remove any dirt, and made sure there were no stickers on them.

I chose parts of a Bible verse from 1 Corinthians 13, the “Love Passage,”

 The nice thing is that  you don’t need amazing penmanship – it almost looks better if it’s somewhat scribbled.

 Bake it in the oven at 350 for about 30 minutes.  Be careful when putting it in and taking it out – it will still smudge.  I messed up one of the words while taking it out of the oven, so I just wiped it off quickly, and when it was cool, I re-wrote the word and baked it again.  Turned out fine.

There are so many different ways to use this idea – I’m excited to try them!  Imagine: mugs for Father’s Day, gifts for grandparents (trace a handprint or something), plates & trays for Christmas, teacher gifts….pretty much anything!  And with all the gorgeous colours in Sharpies now, you can be very creative.  The marker I used had a fine point and an ultra-fine point, which is the side I used for writing.

    FYI…..I tried this last night (including the baking); and when I tested it this morning by washing it, the ink came off. This is not a permanent decoration and I would be careful that the ink doesn’t get on any food you may put on these plates.

    Wow this is adorable! My best friend did this for Christmas gifts and I want to try it out. I have a friend that I haven’t talked to in a while and I want to make one for her.
