Septic care, Giveaway, and Majesta e-z Flush Challenge

For the first 12 years of our marriage, we only had one bathroom. That was fine when it was just the two of us, but after the first, second, third, and fourth child, it became pretty busy and crowded.

And so we finally moved to a new house with three bathrooms! Three!  As wonderful as that is, it also comes with 3 times the cleaning, and 3 times the toilet problems (toilet paper over-use being the biggest challenge). We are also on a septic tank, so we needed to learn how to properly care for our septic system.

That’s when I came across some handy videos.  They are created by a plumber, Tammy Buchanan, founder of Small Jobs Plumbing – the first female owned and operated plumbing company in Nova Scotia! While you might not always think of it, one of her top tips for avoiding plumbing problems is starting with a toilet paper that breaks down quickly in water. This is especially true if you have low-flow toilets or a septic system, own a cottage or RV or simply have a kid who can’t help but put a little too much in the bowl! She shares her tips and advice on how to fix some of the most common toilet troubles with Canadians through the e•z Toilet Fixes videos on Majesta.com.  

As a family, we wanted to check the flushability of Majesta paper versus other brands.  It’s pretty simple: all you do is put 5 sheets of toilet paper in the bottle, shake 5 times, and compare the results.  

(Now unfortunately they didn’t get shaken quite hard enough, or you would have seen that the Majesta dissolved completely.  The leading brand is still sitting in the bottle – we couldn’t get it out even after a lot more shaking). When you think about how sensitive a septic system is and how expensive the repairs can be, it makes sense to choose a toilet paper that dissolves quickly.
