Our kids don’t spend a lot of time online or playing games. Maybe once or twice a week they are allowed to play something. But I always have a hard time finding a free game that will actually help them practice relevant skills. So when I came across the free math game Prodigy at my school, I really wanted to check it out.
As quoted on their website, “Prodigy is a Pokemon-style math game that thousands of students in Ontario are begging their parents to play. As your child plays Prodigy at home, they cover the exact same content that they would in school, and progress through the Ontario Curriculum.”
It is specifically focused on the Ontario curriculum. It is used in classrooms across Ontario, and students can continue their games at home. Parents and teachers have access to all kids’ stats, and you can see what areas they are struggling with. It is always free for everyone. They say, “We believe in equal access for all; Prodigy can be used at no cost to schools or students.”
Our kids have had a blast playing this!! They get to create their own character with a nickname (so no real names or info is ever given). The questions automatically assess where they are, and challenge them each time. They want to do their best so they can earn more powers and buy accessories. As a parent or teacher, you can see all your students’ records in a variety of ways – questions they get right or wrong, how much time it takes to answer, and a lot of other info. And with the student login, kids can play the same character at home as at school, continuing their learning.
There are no annoying pop-ups or ads (I can’t tell you how many times our kids have accidentally clicked on an ad during a “free” game, and ended up opening all kinds of windows – who knows what they will lead to?). There is an option to purchase a membership for the enhanced version, starting at 4.99, which is how they get the funds to run the site.
I would definitely recommend to any parents! Let me know what you think!
Disclaimer: I was not in any way compensated for this post. It is an awesome game, and I wanted to share it with everyone!

That sounds great. My little one struggles in math, so I think I am going to check this out for him.
This is the ultimate twist for the kids.. they think they are playing a game, yet they are learning.. i like these kinds of “games”
Thank you! This is perfect for my kids, and I had no idea it existed! Thanks for posting about it 🙂
Prodigy sounds like a pretty cool game. I bet kids do love playing it because it’s fun and interactive, yet parents like it because they are learning at the same time.
What a great find and concept. Anything that helps kids develop a love for math is a win!
The fact it’s available at no cost is huge! That’s great encouragement where it’s needed!
What an awesome idea to mix gaming and math; very smart!
So glad there are no pop-ups or ads. The pop up ads drive me nuts.
This is an excellent concept and I love that it makes it fun for the kids. I don’t know if my nephew is doing this math yet, but I am Pinning this to save for later.
What’s not to love? Pokemon and Math games = increased learning. I love it.
Cool game! I’ll check it out… thanks for sharing
