I’m going to admit something: I didn’t take Prenatal Vitamins when I was pregnant with either child. It had nothing to do with the fact that I was against them in any fashion, or that I thought that I was too good for them. I’d like to say that I was eating SO healthy that I was already getting the proper levels of folic acid and all that jazz, but I wasn’t. I threw up. A LOT. Not enough to get me hospitalized, but enough that I was on Diclectin until I was 26 weeks pregnant – and even then, I still threw up about once a week. I ate white food. No, I don’t mean “White People” food – I mean, I ate White. Food. Mashed potatoes. Bread with butter. Rice. Bananas. You know why? Because it was the least unpleasant when it came back up. Spinach coming out your nose is NOT COOL. Has anyone noticed how GINORMOUS those prenatal vitamins are?! I couldn’t even brush my teeth without puking, let alone swallow a pill the size of my fist! (Am I a horse, that you come at me with horse pills?!) I may have told my midwife that I was taking my vitamins religiously because I already felt bad enough that I was skipping them.
Now that I’ve disappointed AND grossed you out, I just want to say that I DO have a point. I was always mystified as to why vitamin manufacturing companies couldn’t figure out a way to make small – or at least chewable – vitamins for the most nausea-prone group of people in this country. Now, this news comes too late for me, but for the rest of you Canadians who struggle with getting your daily dose in, Help Has Arrived! honibe® has a line of chewable prenatal vitamins – best of all, they’re Gummies (which is even BETTER)! honibe honey gummies™ have 50% less refined sugar than other vitamin gummies, AND they’re free of gluten, dairy, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives! This is HUGE NEWS!
Ok. So, I’m really supposed to be talking about my family’s experience with the honibe honey gummies™ that we received a few weeks ago, so I’ll move on to that now, but if you ever had a pregnancy experience like I did, you’ll completely understand why the gummy prenatal vitamin news was SO EXCITING for me (and you should share the news with all of your pregnant friends!)!
My kids love the honibe honey gummies™ – but that’s not really surprising. We’ve always used gummy vitamins and they ‘get’ to have them after dinner as sort of a reward. (We always store them on a very high shelf, lest the kiddos decided to help themselves to an early morning snack.) Honey is one of my son’s favourite foods, so he’s thrilled about the fact that honey is the no. 1 ingredient in them (and, quite frankly, the simple fact that they’re called “honibe®”. What can I say? He’s easy to please).
My husband came home from work one day, saw them on the counter, popped the lid off, ate one, and said, “Wow! These are fantastic! Where did they come from?” He is particularly against refined sugars in the house, so when he read the bottle after eating his vitamin he was pretty much an instant fan.
I love the fact that they’re only once-a-day vitamins as opposed to our other gummy vitamins, which are twice a day. I do a lot of things on a daily basis for four people, and I usually only remember to put out the vitamins once a day. Now? Problem solved.
The Cool Stuff (As if the other stuff wasn’t cool enough…)
In honour of the product launch, honibe® is offering this awesome deal: Buy any 2 bottles of honibe honey gummies™ and receive a FREE bottle of honibe honey gummies™ Fruit and Vegetable PLUS free shipping for your WHOLE order.

Nice giveaway! I will have to look for those in the store. Right now we just do a vitamin d gummy, but I should probably give my kids a multivitamin too.
