My husband and I are both second generation Canadians, with all four of our parents originating in the Netherlands. Neither of us have ever been to visit, though both of us have always wanted to make the trip someday.
This past fall, two of our most dear friends packed up their worldly possessions and moved to Rotterdam for no fewer than 5 years. Given that Brian is starting Grad School in September, we were fairly certain that by the time he finished school and got established in his new job, the other half of Team VOX (as we like to call them) might just be back in the Great White North and we wouldn’t have had a chance to visit them!
However, thanks to the very successful sale of our home this spring, we’re giving ourselves a little 9-year-anniversary before the realities of Grad School set in – a two week trip to the Netherlands. We have 5 goals whilst in Europe:
1) Spend some absolutely amazing moments with Team VOX.
2) Travel to N52 22.761 E4 53.535 in Amsterdam and take a photo of us in front of this canal, made famous by the popular IKEA poster with the red bike:
3) Spend a weekend in Paris, because:
4) Spend a weekend in Mürren, Switzerland, because:
5) Explore the little village of Gasselternijveenschemond where my grandparents had a farm on which my mom was born. I’m fairly sure that the population is smaller than the name. 🙂
Can I just say one more thing? I’m not being paid to say this, this isn’t sponsored: I am legit excited that we can now use the Rogers Roam Like Home in Europe – I can use my own phone exactly as I would as if I was in Canada, for just $10 a day while we’re out there. Yes, I might be a nerd, but I’m a thrifty nerd. 😀
Have you been to Europe? What’s the one place that you’d recommend to someone, and why?

OMGEEE. YOU ARE?! GOOD FOR YOU!!!!
Hum, let’s see, have I ever been to Europe… oh yes, I actually grew up in France. Wanna have lunch and chat about Paris? I lived 8 years in Paris, I don’t know the trendy restaurants anymore, because I left 8 years ago, but I could still have some good tips, especially on kids and Paris.
