Last month, Feld Family Entertainment gave us 4 tickets to see the Maple Leaf Monster Jam tour at First Ontario Place in Hamilton. I needed to stay home with our Little Lady, so we arranged for Brian to take Hendrik and our friend Marty took his 5 year old son along.
I wasn’t sure if there was going to be hearing protection available at the show, so I hunted down child-sized hearing protection for $17.99 at Lawlor Safety in the North End of Hamilton. You can get fancy colourful hearing protection for kids at the upscale children’s stores in town, but $55 was a little out of my price range. These suited the boys just fine. And, for the record, if you ever go to a Monster Jam event, you need to have hearing protection, adults and children alike.
The guys had a fantastic time. We had a book about Monster Trucks, and there was a really cheesy show on Netflix last year that Hendrik watched over & over about a little boy & little girl going through their (early 90’s) computer & learning how Monster Trucks work, but that was his only exposure to Monster Trucks. A month on and Hendrik is still talking about the Spiderman Monster Truck (and you have to imagine a 3 year old shouting “Monster Truck” in a gruff ‘scary’ voice).
Besides the SpiderMan monster truck, Hendrik’s favourite part was the quad race – the “Hamilton” team, not surprisingly, beat the “Toronto” team, which H thought was awesome. All in all, it was a pretty quality day out for the guys. I had some peace & quiet at home, so everyone won!

Hi – stopping by from the Facebook UBC group. How exciting it must have been to see in person! I’ve watched Monster Truck events on TV, but not gone to an actual event. I have been to one NASCAR race in NH and a couple drag races, and those were thrilling to see! So much different being there!
Looks like a blast, and a good time had by all. Thaks for sharing
