Parenting Life Hack: Teach Your Toddler to Put On Her Own Coat with the “Daycare Flip”

If you’ve ever watched The West Wing, you probably noticed that POTUS, Jed Bartlett, puts his coat on in a really strange manner. One second, it’s in front of him, the next second, it’s whipped over his head and the he’s wearing it. Last week, my daughter walked into the livingroom with her coat on. “Me DO IT!” she yelled. She took the coat off again, put it on the floor, bent over, stood up, then flung the coat over her head and she was wearing it!

I texted my husband: “A just did the Bartlett Jacket Flip!! How did she learn to do that?!”

I posted on Facebook about it. My kid’s a GENIUS! And then people started telling me, “Oh, yeah, my kid learned how to do that in Daycare. They call it the “Daycare Flip!” Who knew? Apparently this is a thing! And let me tell you – it’s a BRILLIANT thing! My 2 year old daughter can put her coat on faster than my 3.5 year old son! (I’m currently trying to teach him how to do it, but because A puts her coat on that way, he thinks that way is for BABIES!

Parenting Life Hack: The Daycare Flip helps 2 year olds put coats on ALL BY THEMSELVES!

Check it out – it’s really simple, really easy. And do your friends with young kids a favour, too – share the video with them on Facebook! I only wish  I knew about this method 2 years ago!!

In other news, I can’t believe that my 2 year old daughter is already teaching me how to do new things…

I respect people who respect others. I love good food that's well done, but my favourite lunch is KD & hotdogs. With ketchup. I'm addicted to Clearance Shopping. I will ALWAYS get the product that I want at the price that I want, eventually.

  1. Cute. My kids learned how to do that in junior kindergarten. The teachers called it the “magic flip.”

  2. We called that the Kindergarten Flip at school!
