Growing up, I always made clothes for my dolls and Barbies. I loved creating accessories for them, and I imagined that one day I would do the same with my own daughter. Fast forward a number of years to my life today with four busy boys! There are no dolls in our house and not as much crafting as I had thought. But when I saw this awesome post from Busy Kids, Happy Mom, about making a Lego figure cape, we were inspired to try it.
So that’s how I ended up at the table with my boys planning colours, tracing, and cutting doll clothes (or rather, capes for Lego men). We only had 2 colours of duct tape – silver and black. And since you need to stick 2 pieces of tape together, you have a lot of options (all black, all silver, or silver and black).
All you need is some duct tape, scissors, and a hole punch.
Just stick two pieces of duct tape together. Trace a cape that you already have, and cut it out. Punch the holes, and there you go!
If you don’t have a cape to trace, click here for her pattern.
Our boys wanted scalloped edges like Batman, so that’s what we did. He looks great!
(Can you tell we love the Lego Movie over here?!!)
You can also use all that awesome patterned duct tape out there (I’ve even seen real Batman duct tape!). Or you can use felt, flannel, or other fabric. You can tape/glue a logo onto the cape as well. And you don’t just have to make a Lego figure cape – I’m sure you could make almost any kind of clothing or accessory with the right inspiration using this method!

Neat idea. I used to make things for my Barbie dolls when I was growing up. I had all kinds of handmade things. This is so cool! I have to try this out with my son.

I love duck tape. I showed my Girl Scouts how to make a purse out of duck tape and they was so proud of their creation! The cape is kool as well. It makes great outfits for other dolls as well.
I REALLY want to try some more crafts! The wallets look cool too!
