FREE Kids’ Building Worskshops #ThriftyThursday

I know I’ve mentioned these FREE workshops before, but just in case you missed them, here goes!

Both Home Depot and Lowes offer free children’s building workshops once or twice a month.  All you have to do is call ahead of time to register your kids.  You get a complete kit to work on with your child, as well as an apron and goggles to keep.  There are pre-drilled holes, and hammers are provided. The age is from about 4 or 5 and up (though we’ve brought our younger ones too), and you get to make some great wooden projects. In the past years, we’ve made fire trucks, police cars, tow trucks, race cars, delivery trucks, chalkboards, treasure chests, and various games.

Depending on the day or the project, we choose Home Depot or Lowes, or sometimes both. This Saturday they are both offering workshops, so I’ve registered us at both.

Home Depot has this cute flower planter to build this Saturday between 10-12. A great Mothers’ Day gift for Mom or Grandma! Check it out on their website.

A couple of final hints. They usually have tables set up, but we find that it’s much easier working on the floor with the hammers. Also, if the instructions ask for wood glue, look for it and use it – otherwise  your toy will fall apart (at least the Home Depot ones).

I live in Bowmanville, and am a mom to four young boys - it can get a little loud in my house. I am a Christian, a part-time French teacher, a piano teacher and former homeschooler. I love finding the best deals, which will come in handy when our boys become hungry teenagers! We just moved to a house with more outdoor space, and I'm still getting used to life in the country (a walk around the block is a lot longer here!).
