Easy and HEALTHY Valentine’s Treats

Just a quick post from me today. I was reading the class updates from my youngest boys, and the teacher wants to celebrate Valentine’s day this Wednesday! So that means getting all the card written out, and snacks planned ahead. I was trying to think of fun, healthy Valentine’s treats to send along, but I ran out of inspiration. I headed to Pinterest (of course) and saw the lovely grapes cut in  half and stuck together with toothpicks, making a heart shape! So I went to the grocery store, and the only red grapes were sphere shaped (rather than the oblong/oval shape needed for the treat).

I wandered the aisles, brainstorming, and it came to me – BABY CARROTS! If you find the right ones, you can get an oblong shape, and they should (in theory) make the same heart shape when stuck together.

I found short, fat ones worked the best.

Cut in half diagonally.

Flip one around, and pin together with a toothpick. This is the most difficult part, since the carrots are a lot harder than grapes.  Watch that you don’t poke yourself, and you will need extra toothpicks, because they will break.

Voila! Healthy, cute and fun!! Perfect for a class party, or even just a fun Valentine’s-themed lunch.

I live in Bowmanville, and am a mom to four young boys - it can get a little loud in my house. I am a Christian, a part-time French teacher, a piano teacher and former homeschooler. I love finding the best deals, which will come in handy when our boys become hungry teenagers! We just moved to a house with more outdoor space, and I'm still getting used to life in the country (a walk around the block is a lot longer here!).
