Let @dinnerlicious! Deliver Your Groceries AND your Meal Plan! A dinnerlicious review

Featured DinnerliciousI learned something extremely important this summer: there is a company called dinnerlicious!, based right here in Hamilton, Ontario, that delivers fresh food (mostly local, many organic) and easy to prepare recipes in a meal plan RIGHT TO YOUR FRONT DOOR. And it’s completely affordable!

Dinnerlicious Review

It’s it’s an absolutely reasonable price for the average family, and because dinnerlicious! delivers only the quantities of food that you need for the meals that you’re going to be making, there’s no wasted food going out the door via the garbage or compost bag.  They deliver to the Greater Hamilton Area and there’s a handy interactive map that allows you to plug in your postal code to see if you’re eligible for delivery in your neighbourhood.

Also, I don’t know about you, but we never make all 5 weeknight meals that I plan and then I have more food that goes to waste in the fridge, waiting to be used. This 3-meal plan worked great for the week! Here’s my experience:

On Monday morning, my son ran into the bathroom as I was stepping out of the shower and said, “Mommy! The Vegetable Lady was just here bringing vegetables!” I was a little confused. Not only did I know nothing about a “Vegetable Lady”, I had completely forgotten that Malin was going to be dropping off my meals for the week that morning.
dinnerlicious! delivers groceries and a meal plan to your front door! #HamOnt Dinnerlicious reviewI felt so spoiled unpacking the simple – but elegant – brown paper bags. I mean, who gets their groceries delivered in this day & age?!  Fresh veg, shiny cherries, local meat! (Speaking of the meat, it comes vacuum sealed in plastic – which is so nice! I didn’t have to worry about chicken juices in my fridge!)

dinnerlicious! delivers fresh, local, & organic ingredients AND meal plan to your front door! Each week, there are 3 recipes and ingredients for all three meals. This week, we had Stir-Fried Chicken with Almonds & Zucchini, Swedish Meatballs with Beet Root Risotto, and Pork Tenderloin with Cherry Almond Salad (SO GOOD!!). I know… some of the meals are a little…fancy, and even though I do cook some ‘different’ stuff sometimes, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to pull them all off and do the ingredients justice.

I love cooking, but I hate meal-planning.  When I don’t meal-plan, I spend an extra 30-40 minutes every day trying to decide what I’m going to make for dinner (and then getting side-tracked by Pinterest or Facebook). The fact that these groceries came with three specific meals was the biggest win for me. I’d hand the sheet to my husband in the morning and say, “which one would you like for dinner tonight?” Then, during afternoon naps, I’d do what little prep was needed for the meal, and then 30 minutes before dinner, I’d put it all together and cook it up! I tell you…this would have saved much of my sanity that went missing while 1 year old Hendrik was in daycare, I was working full time AND pregnant with Anneke. No thinking. Less shopping. Dinner on the table in 30-40 minutes. Yes, please!

Even though I was skeptical that I’d be able to pull off some of these dishes, they were simple to prepare, and the recipes were easy to follow.  A friend of mine who subscribes to dinnerlicious! on a weekly basis professes to be absolutely useless in the kitchen, but whenever we’ve eaten at her place, the food has been amazing – thanks, dinnerlicious! 🙂 Besides being healthy and balanced, the recipes almost always turn out to be amazing!

We had the 4-6 people meal size and found that when we fed 2 adults and 2 small kids, we had enough leftovers for at least 2 adults to have for lunch the next day. Score. If you’ve got a gluten free or vegetarian lifestyle, your recipes & ingredients will be adapted accordingly.

We’ve got a busy life right now – and I would absolutely LOVE to be a regular subscriber to dinnerlicious!, but my husband is applying for grad school for next fall and we are scrimping and saving every single blessed penny that we can (good practice for becoming a 1/4 income household) – which means that as frugal and affordable as this service is, I can do it cheaper myself with a lot of extra effort- but extra effort is, right now, free, and by and large, I’m already a very frugal grocery shopper. If I go back to work, however, you can bet that dinnerlicious will be my first stop!!

I would strongly encourage this for families who have 2 working parents and or those who already get take-out once or twice a week – these meals are so much healthier and are ready in about the same amount of time that it’d take you to pick up your Chinese food! Skip the freezer section, have the fresh delivered! Also – know someone in the Hamilton area who just had a baby? Chances are that they’ve already received enough onesies and bibs; why not sign them up for a week (or 2!) of meals?! (who wants to go grocery shopping with a newborn {and possibly other kids!} in tow??)

Sign up now (don’t worry, you can subscribe week-by-week!) and receive 20% off of your first week!

Disclosure: I was compensated for this dinnerlicious review with a week of meals (listed above). All thoughts & opinions are mine alone, dinnerlicious! did not give me any talking points.

But wait! We have a GIVEAWAY for you! Anyone who lives within the delivery area for dinnerlicious! and who’s 18 years or older qualifies – enter here, and get pampered for a week!

Winner will be contacted via email and will have 24 hours to respond to the email before they are passed over. All entries will be verified before the winner is announced.

I live in Hamilton, Ontario, and love my city. I'm a Netflixer, choral music geek, bookworm, inventor of recipes (I take Artistic Licence on EVERYTHING that I make), wife of one, mother of two, and owner of a neurotic Schnauzer. I respect people who respect others. I love good food that's well done, but my favourite lunch is KD & hotdogs. With ketchup. I'm addicted to Clearance Shopping. I will ALWAYS get the product that I want at the price that I want, eventually.

  27. This sounds really, REALLY interesting! The question is…will the hubby and the kids like the food?? (I am cursed with a family of picky eaters!)

  28. This is such a great idea! My husband and I both often work late which leads to bad food choices… having a plan would be amazing!

  34. While I adore doing my meal plan, it does take up SO MUCH time. And I hate grocery shopping. This is such a great idea for a business, and I love the fact that they tailor meals if you have dietary restrictions!

  35. Sounds great! It kind of like your kitchen virtual assistant. The option of tailoring meals base don dietary restrictions is a plus for me, as I have an egg allergy.
