Clean your Dishwasher & Get Rid of the Film on your Dishes #FINISHtheDishes

Did you know? Vinegar can eat away at rubber hoses & seals: Try FINISH Dishwasher cleaner instead.

I’ve had a love-hate relationship with my dishwasher for the last year.  I LOVE that I don’t have to wash my dishes myself. I HATE that it sometimes looks like a 5 year old washed my dishes. I’m constantly finding film and grit on the dishes that I pull out of the washer. Come on, dishwasher, pull it together.

I’ve tried the vinegar thing. Not only did it not work, I think it also ate through our rubber hose a few months ago, causing water to leak under our kitchen floor and down into the basement. Awesome.  (See this post “Yes, it shines the stainless, but he said it totally eats and rots the rubber hoses and seals.” Super. Wish I knew that before cleaned the washer multiple times with vinegar & subsequently paid $80 to replace the drainage hose.

FINISH Dishwasher cleaner. Does the job without eating through your dishwasher.

Anyhow, I had the opportunity to use FINISH dishwasher cleaner the other day.  It was really easy to use – just take the lid off, peel back the foil, and set upsidedown in the bottom rack of the empty dishwasher. I ran the washer at the hottest setting possible, opened the door, disposed of the bottle, and marveled at my squeaky-clean dish cleaning machine.

Then, I filled up the rinse aid dispenser with FINISH Turbo Jet-Dry, loaded in the dirty dishes, & let the machine do its magic. Opening the dishwasher revealed truly sparkly dishes.  My glassware hasn’t looked that good since we bought them. However, we’re still seeing a bit of grit on our dishes. I’m fairly sure that that’s because there’s actually something wrong with our dishwasher – it’s never worked as well as I feel it should. Oh well – these new FINISH products may not be magic, but they’re definitely going to be stocked in our pantry again!

  1. I have tried using CLR to clean my dishwasher. I’m not really sure if it helped or not.
I have the problem with grit on some of my dishes, mainly glasses which is really gross. I read somewhere that it can be caused by the water not being hot enough.

  2. I’ve been using Finish for several years – it seemed to work *somewhat* better than the others with my hard water. I’d always add a bunch of vinegar (oops). Once we got our water softener, everything changed. Dishes were clean, glasses sparkled. I use the Finish dishwasher cleaner too – love it.
