Barbara’s Puffins and Snackimals Organic, Non-GMO Breakfast Cereal Review & Giveaway

Barbara's Puffins Peanut Butter Cereal: Naturally Wheat FreeWe spent the 2nd year of my son’s life almost wheat-free in our house. He had severe stomach issues, and removing wheat from his diet seemed to make the most difference for him. This is when we were first exposed to Barbara’s Puffins cereal. Wheat free, and they had a peanut butter flavour. Score.

Two years previous, we had taken a trip to Newfoundland and I absolutely fell in love with puffins – the animals – such funny little birds, and they look about as graceful as a potato when they’re trying to fly! This is why I noticed them on the shelf the first time. I bought them again and again after that because my son & I both loved them. Cereal is my guilty pleasure.  This is why I was SUPER excited when Anne over at Food Retro referred me to Barbara’s and I was asked to join their Review Panel.  Our box of deliciousness was delivered just after the kids & I had come home from a morning of running errands, so we dug in right away. Yup, we had cereal for lunch. And it was sooo good.  Barbara's Puffins and Snackimals Cereal We were sent Puffins Cinnamon Puffs and Snackimals Cinnamon Crunch and Snackimals Vanilla Blast Cereal. My kids were both drawn to the cinnamon flavours but couldn’t decide between the Puffins or Snackimals so we lived on the edge and mixed the two together!  I was initially surprised and then pleased when I had my first spoonful this time around. It had been a year or so since we ate Puffins last, and I remembered that they tasted good, but did not remember that they’re not bursting with sugar. They’ve got just a hint of sweetness, but they taste far more like cinnamon than like sugar – and that makes the mom – and reluctantly healthy-conscious person – in me very happy! I’m not imagining it, either –  6 grams of sugar in a serving of Cinnamon Puffins vs 10 grams of sugar in a serving of Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

What else is notable about Barbara’s Cereals?

They’re Organic and Non-GMO. They’re vegan and vegetarian. Some of them are high in fibre and made with whole grains, while others are high in calcium, wheat free, and dairy free. They’re great for throwing into a snack container to satisfy hungry little tummies (and fidgety fingers!) on day trips, as well.

Great News!

I live in Hamilton, Ontario, and love my city. I'm a Netflixer, choral music geek, bookworm, inventor of recipes (I take Artistic Licence on EVERYTHING that I make), wife of one, mother of two, and owner of a neurotic Schnauzer. I respect people who respect others. I love good food that's well done, but my favourite lunch is KD & hotdogs. With ketchup. I'm addicted to Clearance Shopping. I will ALWAYS get the product that I want at the price that I want, eventually.
